Why I am deleting my social media
Social media can be a great way to connect with others and learn more about businesses. However, I can no longer ignore the unintended negative consequences. Recently I logged off of all my social media accounts as a way to improve my mental health in preparation for running an ultramarathon. The fact that this improved my mindset is significant, but then an interesting thing happened. I started receiving increasingly aggressive emails from the social media platform telling me about things I was “missing” But, I wasn’t missing anything, I was enjoying spending time outdoors, time with family, and focusing on my health. Once I was able to get the emails to stop, the texts started, and didn’t stop until I logged back on to my accounts.
I came to the realization that I did not need social media. I rarely engage on social media for personal use, and I have not determined any business reason to use it. But, for some reason social media platforms needed me as evidenced by the relentless communications when I logged off for 10 days.
My time that I spend on social media can be better spent reading books, writing, spending time in nature, and connecting with people in real life. Business updates and insights can be found on my blog. The books that I have read can be found on my StoryGraph account @doubletracknd along with reviews and comments.
This will be an interesting transition and I look forward to learning new things, spending time on improving my skills, and building my business.
Exciting times ahead.
