Botox Q&A

What is Botox?

Botox, one of the cosmetic treatments available at doubletrack naturopathic, is a neuromodulator that slows down muscle movement in the specific area where you need it.

By reducing your muscle movement, Botox smooths out wrinkles and prevents them from reforming in the upper one-third of your face.

Dr. Love has years of experience with Botox injections, and she’s particularly skilled with natural-looking wrinkle smoothing.

How does Botox treatment work?

Before each Botox injection, Dr. Love may ask you to frown deeply, raise your eyebrows, and squint your eyes. She watches these facial muscle movements to determine the ideal target treatment area.

Depending on where you have (or want to prevent) wrinkles, Dr. Love may inject Botox in the following areas:

  • Glabella - between your brows, above your nose
  • Forehead - above your brows up to your hair line
  • Crow’s feet - at the corners of both eyes

You typically receive five injections each for the forehead and glabellar areas and six total injections for crow’s feet. The injection process usually takes only a few minutes per area.

Does Botox hurt?

Botox injections are virtually painless, although you may feel a small sting as Dr. Love inserts the slim needle. If you have especially sensitive skin, ask Dr. Love about topical numbing before your Botox injections.

After your injections, Dr. Love typically applies an ice pack, which helps to minimize any redness or swelling. You might have some mild bleeding, which decreases within minutes. It’s normal to have some minor swelling for a few days, but it’s not painful.

When does Botox take effect?

Botox takes effect in as little as 24-48 hours but can take longer in some patients. Optimal effects may not occur for 2-4 weeks.

How long do Botox injections last?

On average, Botox can last for up to four months. To remain wrinkle-free, schedule follow-up treatments roughly every three months. Dr. Love is an aesthetic injection expert who can quickly determine exactly what you need to maintain your appearance while looking natural.

Dr. Love may also have other recommendations to help you get the very best long-term results from Botox. While Botox works very effectively to smooth out wrinkles, it’s also important to support your skin from within.

Certain nutritional supplements may help you to make more collagen and elastin, which improves your skin’s support system, skin thickness, and overall appearance. When combined with Botox, this can give you a lastingly youthful appearance.
